Vampires are thought to be pale, bloodsucking creatures who prey upon humans and animals. They were thought to be be “undead”, and that the sun would cause them to shrivel up. Modern researchers have attributed diseases such as porphyria, which caused those affected to be sensitive to sunlight; pellagra, which caused skin thinning; and rabies, which caused biting and the development of sensitives to garlic or light.
