King James the VI of Scotland was terrified of witches! His fear may have started when his new wife, Anne of Denmark, was struck by violent storms while sailing to Scotland. This led to his obsession with the idea that witches had caused the storms, and he began hunting them out! His fear of witches was the cause of thousands of deaths in Scotland, and may have been a key factor in spreading the fear of witches to England.
