Does your child enjoy exploring nature? How about photography or poetry?

If the answer is yes to either of those questions, you’re in luck! The Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum has partnered with the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes Center to offer a special winter field trip to the dunes and the museum.

This daylong adventure will start at the dunes, where children will go on a docent-led nature walk to learn about local birds and other native biology. They’ll also get a chance to snap some photos and document the wildlife they see in their own nature logs.

After the walk, they’ll head back to the museum to write poetry and make artwork inspired by their adventure!

This field trip is specifically designed for local teachers and their classes, although individual families will also be considered. And, thanks to the Dunes Center, all of the transportation is included.

That means we’ll pick you up and drop you off at your school!

The date for the field trip is flexible, but must take place before Feb. 28.

For more information, including pricing, or to schedule a field trip for your class, contact Discovery Museum Program Director Amy Blasco at 928-9414 or amy@smvdiscoverymuseum.org.

The Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum is at 705 S. McClelland St. in Santa Maria. We are open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
