Christmas wishes: A Discovery Museum guest tells Santa what she’d like for Christmas at last year’s Discovery Workshop.
The Santa Maria Valley Discovery Museum is the place to go for family-friendly holiday festivities this year!
On Sunday, Dec. 18, Santa Claus and his jolly elf, Snowflake, will visit with children from noon to 4 p.m. at Santa’s Discovery Workshop. Guests of all ages can make Christmas and Hanukkah crafts, play games, and sing carols with the St. Joseph High School Glee Club at 2 p.m.
Then, on Saturday, Dec. 31, Central Coast families will welcome 2017 by counting down to Noon Year’s Eve with the Discovery Museum staff. Scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., this fun party is a great way to celebrate the New Year with little ones who are too young to stay up until midnight. Come sip sparkling cider and make party hats and noisemakers for when the clock strikes 12 p.m.
“Holidays at the Discovery Museum are all about having fun and making memories together as a family,” Program Director Amy Blasco. “We’re thrilled to provide our guests with festive, hands-on activities that are both educational and entertaining for the whole family.”
You can also give the gift of discovery with our holiday membership special! Now through Jan. 15, 2017, new and renewing members get 10 percent off any membership, discount passes to the SLO Children’s Museum and Central Coast Aquarium, and a Discovery Museum T-shirt.
Purchase your membership online with the discount code HOLIDAY, call (805) 928-8414, or visit us in person to take advantage of this once-a-year special. This is also the time of year that the museum asks community members to consider making a year-end, tax-deductible donation to help close the gap between what it costs to operate the museum and our admissions.
Celebrating its 20th year as the only children’s museum in Santa Barbara County, the Discovery Museum is located at 705 S. McClelland St. in Santa Maria. We are open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. Admission costs $6 per person; members are free.
